The South Sudan Children’s Foundation was established to provide educational infrastructure for poor South Sudanese children in communities where families and finances have been destroyed by that country’s civil war.
Deng Juac and Dhieu Juac are cousins and co-founders of the South Sudan Children’s Foundation, who are among the Lost Boys who emigrated to the United States after trekking through wilderness and danger in South Sudan over 15 years ago in order to reach a Kenyan refugee camp before being sponsored to the United States by a Christian Church group.
On October 29,2010. Deng Juac went back to Paliau his home town in Southern Sudan after 12 years to see his father and relatives. While he was there, he visited the school being held in his village, Mayom Primary school in Paliau town, Twic East County and Jonglei state, South Sudan. The school has one structure made of grass and mud, with broken roof. This building is for the older children, who are more likely to drop out due to weather, dust and wind in exchange of learning.
It is now his mission, shared by the members of the board, to build a permanent building for a conducive educational environment whereby children of Mayom community can have access to basic education facilities.
The shared vision is that by building this school, the children of the community of Mayom can learn in better conditions, develop academically, morally and spiritually. As a result, they will be the future peace and culture keepers in their villages, who will challenge the high illiteracy rate and contribute to a better world.
The board members would contribute to the creation of a sustainable curriculum, teaching resources, teacher training and monitoring of the schools performance.

Objectives:
To build a school building for the children of Mayom that can protect children from hostile weather such as heavy rain, dusty wind and provide basic sanitary conditions.
Classrooms will render conducive learning conditions whereby the students can focus on their studies.
- A better building facility can keep students on the pathway to continue with their education, and not drop out due to poor school standards.
- The new school classrooms will attract or bring back children who have given up and dropped out from Mayom Primary School because of the lack of a classroom or poor school conditions.
- A school with proper classroom will motive Mayom community families to encourage their children to attend school.
- A better school within the Mayom village will provide an opportunity for female children who are denied by their parent to travel to along distant school for security reason.
- Mayom Primary school will give an educational opportunity to young adults who were being denied this privilege for a long time by civil war, which resulted in almost all southern Sudanese denied access to education.
- Establishing a school for the 300-500 students who regularly attend the Mayom Primary School will provide a safe location for schooling, removing the need to walk great distances to other schools and risk kidnapping by exploitative criminals.
- Educated children become lifelong civilized and peaceful citizens, contributing to their communities in positive ways and peacefully resolving conflict.
